Advice to Landlords re Land Registry

Landlords are being warned to be certain that the Land Registry is holding correct information on them with reference to their rental properties.

There has been a recent case involving an Agent in the London area where a Tenant managed to defraud a solicitor and convince them that they were the legal owner of the property, subsequently agreeing a sales figure and exchanging sales contracts on the Landlords house.

Luckily the new unsuspecting buyer approached the current Letting Agent and discussed the sale with them raising suspicion and the alarm before completion.

You can and should register up to three contact addresses with the Land Registry so that should there be any movements related to your property they can verify your identity and wishes.

With such incidents on the rise it is more important than ever to make certain that you are working with an Agent who takes up appropriate references on your behalf and does all possible to ensure a correct paper trail.
